Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI)

Fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) is a type of dye penetrant inspection in which a fluorescent dye is applied on finished products like investment castings, Metal Injection Molded parts, Forgings, Rolling and Machined parts etc. Which requires detection of discontinuities open or breaking to the surface in non-porous metals using fluorescent water washable Penetrant and dry or non-aqueous wet developer.

Personal Qualification:

All personnel involved in Penetrant examination, interpretation and evaluation are been qualified as per written practice, ASNT-SNT-TC-1A OR IS 13805 OR ISO 9712 OR NAS 410 EQUIVALENT.

Personnel performing Penetrant Examination are been Level II certified. Personnel performing interpretation and evaluation of test results must be of NDE Level II.

Materials:

a) Penetrant: SHERWIN HM-2D, Type l, Method A, Sensitivity level 1 as a minimum
SHERWIN HM-406, Type 1, Method A, Sensitivity Level 2 as a minimum
b) Cleaner: Sherwin LA-1 Water based Ultrasonic Cleaner
c) Developer: SHERWIN D90-G, Dry developer powder or D 100 non-aqueous developer.
